Year: 2017 / Status: Under Construction

The brief for this project followed the traditional pattern of island living. A two-story house with an external staircase with the capacity to house two families of different generations∙ two parents trying to provide for their kids. The main challenges of the composition were the building’s relationship with the street, the sloped site and the view of the valley beneath.

The building was organized on two different terraced levels in order to avoid – where possible – tampering with the natural terrain. In order to follow the village scale, the program was divided into three small masses which were sized to represent the functions of the residence [living / utilities / sleep].

In order to provide the house with adequate light and ventilation, a system of skylights was introduced, furthering the subdivision of the mass and envelope. Finally, the materials proposed are respectful of the traditional character of the settlement. White plaster finish, oak shutters and railings along with exposed stonework.
